Established in 2015 by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation as a wholly-owned limited liability holding company, Muscogee Nation Businesses, LLC emerged as a pioneering force in tribal economic development.

Since then, we’ve expanded our footprint, fostering the growth of subsidiary companies and joint ventures, to advance our community through the diversification of revenue sources. Profits gained from Muscogee Nation Businesses ventures are returned to the Nation’s tribal treasury for the continued advancement of its citizens.

Muscogee Nation Businesses, LLC, is TERO certified. Tribal Employment Rights Office certification highlights our dedication to tribal self-sufficiency and economic development by ensuring access to employment and contracting opportunities for Native Americans and businesses, particularly within our tribal jurisdiction. It also signifies our adherence to employment and contracting preferences established by tribal authorities, promoting fair opportunities and contributing to the growth of Native American-owned businesses within our community.
Muscogee Nation Businesses, LLC was signed into tribal law by the execution of NCA15-015 on January 31, 2015. This legislation approved business activities separate for the daily affairs of the Nation’s government and approved the wholly-owned limited liability company, formed as a holding company under the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Limited Liability Act.

Several key pieces of federal and state legislation have played significant roles in shaping the legal foundations for tribal business enterprises, including Muscogee Nation Businesses, LLC.

  • The Indian Reorganization Act (IRA) of 1934, also known as the Wheeler-Howard Act, paved the way for tribal self-determination and the reestablishment of tribal governments, providing a framework for economic activities.
  • The Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (ISDEAA) of 1975 granted tribes more authority over their affairs, including economic development initiatives, by allowing them to administer federal programs and services.
  • The National Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (NIGRA) of 1988 facilitated the development of tribal gaming enterprises.
  • The Tribal Labor Sovereignty Act (TLSA) of 2018 reaffirmed tribes’ sovereign rights in governing employment relations within their territories.

These laws, along with others such as the American Indian Trust Fund Management Reform Act of 1994 and Tribal Empowerment and Protection Agreements (TEPAs), collectively contribute to creating a legal environment that supports tribal sovereignty and fosters economic development through various business enterprises.
